BAPETEN and NNSA Hold the International Nuclear Security Workshop on Threat Assessment and Design Basis Threat Indonesia 2026
Kembali 30 Maret 2026 | Berita BAPETEN | 13 lihatBAPETEN, in collaboration with the National Nuclear Security Administration of the United States Department of Energy (NNSA–US DOE), organized the International Nuclear Security Workshop on Threat Assessment and Design Basis Threat Indonesia 2026. The event was officially opened on 30 March 2026 by the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti. The workshop aims to strengthen the national nuclear security system by enhancing capacity in threat assessment and the development of design basis threat for nuclear facilities.
The workshop featured speakers from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), namely David A. Donnelly and Oleg Bukharin, who delivered presentations on threat assessment, the development of design basis threat, and the evaluation of physical protection systems for nuclear facilities.
The workshop was attended by 28 participants from various ministries and institutions with strategic roles in national security, including the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN); the State Intelligence Agency (BIN); the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN); the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs; the National Counterterrorism Agency (Kemenkopolhukam); the Indonesian Army Corps of Engineers (TNI AD); the Construction Health Center of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI); as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
The workshop was conducted over four days, from 30 March to 2 April 2026, in Jakarta. The program included technical presentations, discussions, and practical exercises covering nuclear security threat assessment, the development of design basis threat, threat scenario development, and the evaluation of physical protection systems at nuclear facilities.Through this activity, it is expected to enhance human resource capacity and strengthen interagency coordination in supporting the national nuclear security system, as well as to improve preparedness in addressing potential threats to nuclear facilities in Indonesia.
