BAPETEN Benchmarking Visit to NDK and Scientific Visit to Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant
Kembali 20 Desember 2024 | Berita BAPETEN | 23 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) visited the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Nükleer Düzenleme Kurumu or NDK) in Turkey and the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant on December 16-20, 2024. BAPETEN leaders in attendance were Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo and Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, accompanied by Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DPIBN) Wiryono and technical staff.
The event began with a courtesy call with the Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Achmad Rizal Permana, who discussed the planned visit with NDK and the prospects for nuclear energy in Indonesia's energy mix. The event continued with a meeting between the BAPETEN delegation, accompanied by Indonesian Embassy staff member Dhanny Perkasa, and NDK management, including NDK Vice President İbrahim Halil DERE; Oya ÖZDERE, Head of Group/Department of Nuclear Facilities; Sezar ERCAN, Head of Department of Inspections; Yasin ÇETİN, Head of Department of Inspections; Anil Bekir Bolme, Head of Department of Nuclear Installations; Merve Berat SARIGÜZEL, Nuclear Regulatory Expert, Department of Nuclear Facilities; and several related staff from external departments.
The agenda began with opening remarks by NDK Vice President İbrahim Halil DERE and Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo. In his remarks, Sugeng stated that in the 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), Law No. 59 of 2024 outlines one of the targets for the operation of the first Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) by 2032. Furthermore, in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), BAPETEN's duties include drafting a revision to Law No. 10 of 1997, preparing Government Regulations on Waste Safety and Transportation, and preparing for the development and supervision of nuclear power plants.
The Indonesian delegation recognized the benefits of gaining valuable insights, sharing perspectives, and exploring possible collaboration with NDK, which has demonstrated success in nuclear power plant policy, construction, and commissioning.
The event continued with presentations by İbrahim Halil DERE, Oya ÖZDERE, and Sezar ERCAN, who explained the supervision of nuclear power plants in NDK and the progress of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction. The event continued with a field visit to the NDK office at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant site, attended by Hasan ÇELİKKAYA, Head of Group, Department of Inspections, and Sezgin ÖZCAN, Coordinator of NUTED JSC.
The event continued with a visit to the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant construction site to observe and discuss the construction and commissioning process of Unit 1, as well as discussions and observations on the construction of Units 2, 3, and 4.
