BAPETEN's Role in Creating a Nuclear Energy Ecosystem at the Hearing
Kembali 15 Mei 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 26 lihatCommission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a hearing (Rapat Dengar Pendapat or RDP) to discuss the transfer of assets of PT Industri Nuklir Indonesia (INUKI) to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on May 15, 2025. The meeting was attended by Acting Chairman of the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) Sugeng Sumbarjo, head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko, president director of PT INUKI R Herry, and member of the National Energy Council (DEN) Agus Puji Prasetyono.
The RDP was chaired by the Chairman of Commission XII of the DPR RI, Bambang Patijaya, who, in his opening remarks, stated that this meeting aimed to address issues in the field regarding the nuclear energy ecosystem. "The government will ratify the RUPTL (Regional Development Plan), which states that Indonesia will build a 500 MW nuclear power plant within the next 10 years," he said.
Bambang also expressed his desire to resolve the issues related to the transfer of PT INUKI's assets to BRIN. He also stated that this meeting was to prepare Indonesia for a visit from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in June.
Sugeng stated that prior to the IAEA inspection, BAPETEN had conducted a pre-inspection to ensure that safety, security, and safeguards (3S) standards had been met. "We support the transfer of INUKI's assets to BRIN, as we believe BRIN has adequate resources to manage these assets," he added.
In addition to the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, also present were Deputy for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti, Acting Head of the Bureau of Planning, Information, and Finance (BPIK) Esturini Fitriyanti, Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installations and Materials (DPIBN) Wiryono, and Acting Director of Inspection of Nuclear Installations and Materials (DI2BN) Rizal Palapa.
The meeting concluded that Commission XII of the DPR RI urged all parties to resolve the asset transfer issue by May 26, 2025, and encouraged BAPETEN, BRIN, DEN, and PT INUKI to work together to create a nuclear energy ecosystem to support the development of nuclear power plants in Indonesia.
