Kembali 23 September 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 27 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) held a preliminary meeting online on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, regarding the preparation of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) for the Policy, Plan, or Program (KRP) concerning the development of Nuclear Power Plants (PLTN). The event was attended by the self-managed service provider responsible for drafting the KLHS, from the Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), alongside an inter-ministerial/agency working group. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), the Geological Agency of ESDM, and the Ministry of Environment (KLH) acting as the KLHS validator.
The preparation of the KLHS for the nuclear power plant program aims to ensure sustainable development while securing public acceptance. The commitment to utilizing nuclear energy is enshrined in the National General Plan for Electricity (RUKN) and PT PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), which explicitly target the construction of 250 MWe nuclear power plants in Sumatra and Kalimantan, respectively, with commercial operations scheduled to begin in 2034.
The meeting was opened by Haendra Subekti, BAPETEN’s Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, followed by remarks from Eniya Listiani Dewi, the Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of ESDM. In her address, Eniya emphasized the importance of careful communication with the public and local stakeholders to address social concerns regarding radiation. The presentation session was moderated by Taruniyati Handayani, Head of the Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Nuclear Installation and Materials (P2STPIBN) at BAPETEN. Three presenters participated: Edwin Setiady from the Bangka Belitung Environmental Agency, who presented on local sustainable development issues in Bangka Belitung Islands Province; Irfan from the West Kalimantan Environmental Agency, who presented on local sustainable development issues in West Kalimantan Province; and Langgeng from the Faculty of Geography, UGM, who delivered the preliminary report on the Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS) for the Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN or NPP), the KLHS implementation schedule, and data requirements.
