The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI) convened a Coordination Meeting on Thursday, 12 February 2026, at the BPK Auditorium to discuss follow-up actions on cross-sectoral issues related to the management of radioactive facilities and waste owned by PT INUKI (Persero) located in the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Area, Serpong.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Finance, and other relevant institutions. The forum aimed to ensure that follow-up measures are implemented in accordance with each institution’s respective authority while consistently prioritizing safety principles.

BAPETEN Acting Chairman, Zainal Arifin, who was accompanied by technical officials, emphasized that administratively, the issues discussed are related to the management of State-Owned Assets, which fall under the authority of the relevant institutions.

Nevertheless, as the facilities contain radiation sources, BAPETEN, in accordance with its duties and functions, ensures that all handling processes comply with radiation safety standards and the security of radioactive sources as stipulated in the prevailing laws and regulations.

The forum noted that the current condition of the facilities remains within safety parameters and does not meet the criteria for a nuclear emergency situation. However, further follow-up actions by the responsible parties are required to maintain the sustainability of facility safety and to prevent potential risks in the future.

BAPETEN) emphasized the importance of accelerating the determination of the facility’s responsible party so that safety, security, and safeguards (3S) obligations can be implemented effectively and in a measurable manner. Such certainty is a key prerequisite for effective regulatory oversight and for ensuring the protection of workers, the public, and the environment.

As the regulatory authority, BAPETEN will continue to carry out its oversight functions in accordance with its statutory mandate, while respecting the limits of each institution’s authority in both administrative matters and asset management. [DPIBN/Wiryono/BHKK/SP]
