To enhance public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat, or PHBS) in the context of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination at the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate (KIM), BAPETEN participated in an outreach event. Haendra Subekti, the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, and Abdul Qohhar Teguh Eko Prasetyo, a Senior Public Relations Officer, represented the agency. The event was held at the Cikande District Hall on October 13, 2025, and was attended by local village officials, who are expected to act as intermediaries in disseminating PHBS information to the communities surrounding KIM Cikande.

The PHBS outreach event was also officially attended by Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Banten Regional Police Chief Inspector General Hengki, Governor of Banten Andra Soni, and Regent of Serang Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah. Hanif officially opened the session by stating that no Cs-137 could escape Cikande, as entry and exit to KIM Cikande have been restricted to a single route. Furthermore, decontamination efforts will be carried out simultaneously, accompanied by health screenings for residents affected by the contamination.

To begin the session, Meylina Puspitasari, an expert health administrator representing the Ministry of Health’s Directorate of Health Promotion and Community Health, gave a presentation on PHBS amidst environmental pollution. She advised attendees to stay updated on news regarding evacuation and shelter locations and to avoid contamination by maintaining personal hygiene and health. Subsequently, Leonardo Oloan Agusta Sitanggang from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) spoke on the effects of radiation on the human body, covering topics such as radiation sources, types, and effects, as well as health examinations for those exposed to radiation. In the final presentation session, Abdul Qohhar provided an introduction to nuclear energy, covering topics such as natural and artificial radiation, the biological effects of radiation, radiation thresholds, radiation protection principles, and the necessary actions to take in the event of external or internal radiation exposure.

During the discussion session, led by the Head of the Serang Regency Health Office, Rahmat Fitriadi, BAPETEN addressed inquiries regarding safe distances from established perimeter lines, the expansion of contamination mapping areas, and contact details for BAPETEN should village officials or residents require further clarification. It is expected that the collaboration between BAPETEN and other government agencies will foster a clear understanding among residents, ensuring that the decontamination and health screening processes proceed smoothly and within the scheduled timeframe.
