BAPETEN Receives Visit from the U.S. Department of Energy to Discuss STM Progress and Strengthen Collaboration
Kembali 19 Mei 2026 | Berita BAPETEN | 99 lihatBAPETEN received a visit from the United States Department of Energy to discuss the progress of bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of Strategic Trade Management (STM) oversight in Indonesia. The meeting was held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at BAPETEN.
The United States Department of Energy delegation was led by Christopher Beedle and attended by Ransom Avilla, Matt Bauer, Crystal Pryor, Ryan Cathy, Dihya Ihsan, and Tota Asi. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, Zainal Arifin, accompanied by Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti, along with Senior Officials from several working units within BAPETEN.
During the meeting, Christopher Beedle expressed his appreciation for the strong cooperation established with BAPETEN, particularly in discussions related to nuclear dual-use issues and the implementation of Strategic Trade Management (STM) in Indonesia. He noted that BAPETEN has been an excellent partner in various workshops and collaborative activities.
The meeting continued with a discussion session opened by , Zainal Arifin, who stated, “The oversight of dual-use goods requires cross-ministerial coordination and strengthened industry awareness. BAPETEN plays a role in identification and technical assessment, while the licensing process remains under the authority of the relevant ministries according to their respective sectors.” This visit is expected to further strengthen technical cooperation between the United States delegation and BAPETEN in advancing the implementation of STM in Indonesia, particularly through capacity building, knowledge exchange, and the harmonization of methodologies for identifying dual-use goods.
Through this discussion, both parties are expected to enhance understanding of dual-use goods classification, strengthen cross-sector coordination, and improve the effectiveness and integration of export-import oversight. [BHKK/OR/ACN]
