BAPETEN Verifies Radiotherapy Facilities at Undata Regional Hospital, Palu
Kembali 28 April 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 24 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), conducted a verification of radiotherapy facilities at Undata Regional Hospital (RSUD Undata), Palu City, Central Sulawesi, from April 21–25, 2025. This activity aimed to ensure that the radiotherapy installation, which uses a linear accelerator (LINAC), met safety standards for workers, patients, the public, and the surrounding environment.
The verification focused on inspecting the radiotherapy bunker built to accommodate the Elekta-brand Synergy Platform LINAC. The inspection team, led by BAPETEN's Director of DPFRZR, Asep Saefulloh Hermawan, along with three BAPETEN radiation supervisory team members—Ahmad Maulana, Herry Irawan, and Dwi Angestiningsih—conducted a series of administrative and technical inspections.
The scope of the inspection included an evaluation of the bunker design and thickness of the radiation barrier walls, the performance of main and supporting equipment, radiation exposure measurements, dosimetry testing, and the readiness of human resources to operate equipment according to safety standards. The team also reviewed patient flow, operational procedures, and radiation safety and protection equipment.
Preliminary results of the verification indicate that the hospital still needs to improve several areas. However, RSUD Undata has demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling all recommendations from BAPETEN within the specified timeframe.
Undata Regional Hospital Director Herry Mulyadi expressed his appreciation for BAPETEN's support and emphasized the importance of having a radiotherapy facility in Palu City. "With this more advanced medical service, we expected that the people of Palu would no longer need to refer cancer patients to larger cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, or Makassar. This will improve hospital services and patients' quality of life," he said. [DPFRZR/Dwiangesti/BHKK/SP/Translator: GP]
