BAPETEN held the Executive Meeting and BAPETEN Awards 2025 in Jakarta on 27 October 2025. The event carried the theme Supervisory Strategies for Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Development Towards Achieving Net Zero Emissions.
Anugerah BAPETEN is a form of appreciation given to license holders who demonstrate the highest level of compliance with safety and security requirements in the utilization of nuclear energy. The award is presented to 557 facilities across various sectors, including Research and Industrial Facilities, Healthcare Facilities, External Dosimetry Laboratory Facilities, and Facilities that have implemented Radiation Safety Optimization for Radiology Patients. Among these, the top 50 facilities were invited to receive the award in person.
This event serves as a strategic forum to strengthen collaboration among regulators, industry, academia, and other stakeholders in supporting the oversight of NPP development in Indonesia to ensure it is carried out safely, reliably, and sustainably.
The event was attended by the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Zainal Arifin, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology ad interim Brian Yuliarto, Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung, and Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment of BAPETEN Haendra Subekti.
The event began with an activity report delivered by the Director of Inspection for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials, Zulkarnain, who stated that this meeting serves as a strategic forum for nuclear stakeholders to discuss policy direction, challenges, and oversight measures for the development of NPPs in Indonesia.
The series of activities was officially opened by Zainal Arifin, who emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060 or earlier, with nuclear power emerging as one of the strategic options for electricity generation. “The development of NPPs holds significant potential to support carbon cost decentralization and strengthen long-term electricity supply security. Building an NPP is not merely a technological project, but a national effort that requires comprehensive readiness in policies, regulations, infrastructure, and regulatory oversight systems,” he added.
In addition, the event featured a panel discussion with speakers including the Head of Technology Development and Asset Management Division of PT PLN Indonesia Power, Budhi Setiawan; Member of the National Energy Council (DEN), Agus Puji Prasetyono; and the Head of the Nuclear Engineering Department of UGM, Alexander Agung. The session was moderated by Haendra Subekti.
The discussion highlighted the readiness for establishing the NEPIO, the role of state-owned enterprises in preparing relevant human resources, and the contribution of universities in advancing research and innovation in the nuclear sector.
The event also featured a Nuclear Product Exhibition showcasing nuclear applications and technologies, ranging from medical devices to planned designs for Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) reactors.
Through the 2025 Executive Meeting, various strategic recommendations were formulated to serve as the foundation for developing policies on NPP oversight in Indonesia. It is expected that these outcomes will strengthen cross-sector collaboration to achieve a safe and sustainable energy transition, while accelerating Indonesia’s progress toward national energy independence based on nuclear technology.
