Verification of Radiotherapy Permit for Dharmais Cancer Hospital, Jakarta

The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through its Directorate of Licensing for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), conducted a verification of the radiotherapy facility at Dharmais Cancer Hospital in West Jakarta, DKI Jakarta Province, from November 11 to 14, 2025. The verification aimed to ensure that the bunkers for Linear Accelerator (LINAC) external beam therapy, Tomotherapy, and Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT) were safe for workers, patients, the public, and the environment. The verification team confirmed that the constructed design met safety standards by evaluating radiation shielding calculations and verifying that major equipment, supporting equipment, human resource competence, and operational procedures complied with radiation safety requirements.
The inspection team, led by Herry Irawan (Activity Manager for the Health Facility Licensing Functional Group at DPFRZR BAPETEN) and his team members, verified radiotherapy facilities featuring the following modalities: a Varian TrueBeam LINAC unit, an Accuray Radixact X9 Tomotherapy unit, and a Carl Zeiss Meditec AG Intrabeam 600 IORT unit.
The scope of the on-site inspection included document review and technical verification of the facility's as-built design and the adequacy of radiation shielding thickness in the bunkers; performance checks of major and supporting equipment; radiation exposure measurements and dosimetry testing; assessment of patient workflow and personnel competence in operating the LINAC unit according to standards; and inspection of radiation protection and safety equipment as well as safety system performance.
Following the radiotherapy operating license verification, the hospital committed to addressing the findings presented by the BAPETEN team within a specified timeframe. The verification process proceeded smoothly, supported by the hospital's active participation and positive reception of the proceedings; any identified deficiencies were regarded as technical input and recommendations for ensuring radiation safety compliance in accordance with applicable laws and safety standards.
