BAPETEN Held Sub Regional Workshop on Nuclear Law for Asia and The Pacific

Each country must have its own specific system and experience in the law making procedures. In order to obtain input on efforts to strengthen and improve the nuclear regulatory framework, BAPETEN held Sub-Regional Workshop on Nuclear Law for Asia and the Pacific in Jakarta on 5 – 9th August, 2019
The event began with remarks from the Nuclear and Treaty Section, Office of Legal Affairs - IAEA Anthony Wetherall. Wetherall said that through this workshop, IAEA member states could share experiences to discuss national and international aspects related to nuclear law, specifically focusing on safety, security and safeguards.
On this occasion, the Chairman of BAPETEN Jazi Eko Istiyanto was present to give a speech while opening the event officially. In his remarks, Jazi said that the amendments were made to increase the independence of the regulatory body in order to improve safety, security and safeguards in the use of nuclear energy.
The workshop presented experts from the IAEA, namely Anthony Wetherall, Abdelmadjid Cherf, Desislava Spassova, Adeline Djeutie, and Sylvain Fanielle. Participants were also attended from 19 member countries of IAEA in Asia and the Pacific, namely Indonesia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, the Republic of the Fiji Islands, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Republic of Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and the Republic of Vanuatu.
